Scorching Heat Grips Uttarakhand; Weather Expected to Change After June 11

Dehradun – Uttarakhand is currently reeling under intense heat, with rising temperatures making life difficult for residents and tourists alike. The plains, including Dehradun, Haridwar, and Udham Singh Nagar, are experiencing above-normal temperatures, while even the hilly regions such as Nainital and Almora are reporting unusually warm conditions.
Local residents have reported increased electricity consumption due to continuous use of fans and air conditioners. Markets and public places are seeing lower footfall during the daytime as people prefer to stay indoors. Health officials have advised citizens to stay hydrated and avoid outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours to prevent heatstroke.
However, there is some relief in sight. According to the Meteorological Department, the weather is expected to change after June 11. A western disturbance is likely to affect parts of North India, including Uttarakhand, bringing chances of rainfall and a drop in temperature.
Meteorologists suggest that light to moderate rain may occur in the hilly districts like Chamoli, Rudraprayag, and Pithoragarh. The plains may also experience cloudy skies and occasional showers, which will bring respite from the sweltering heat.
Authorities have issued advisories urging travelers to check the weather forecast before planning visits to the hills and to stay updated with official alerts, especially during the monsoon transition.
